Posted Feb. 8, 2016 at 2:01 AM Progress Index, PETERSBURG — For 27 consecutive years, the men of Nu Omicron Lambda Chapter (Fort Lee) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. have considered it an honor and a privilege to recognize local community leaders who exemplify the life and legacy of their beloved brother, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Jan. 16, some 375 plus people from throughout the Tri-Cities gathered at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Community Life Center for the 27th annual King Holiday Memorial Breakfast and Legacy Awards Celebration. This year’s honorees and the area in which they were recognized included: Kori L. Reddick for Education, Floyd L. Henderson for Religious Affairs, and Nancy Spraggins Ross for Community Service.
Guest speaker Maj. Gen. Darrell K. Williams, Commanding General U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command/Sustainment Center of Excellence and Fort Lee, reminded everyone of the principles by which Dr. King lived and of Dr. King’s extraordinary life and accomplishments. He challenged everyone to embrace those same principles in their daily lives. 
The men of Nu Omicron Lambda "extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to all program participants for their unwavering commitment to the communities they serve and to the communities at large for their steadfast support of this incredible celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King’s dream lives on in the hearts and deeds of so many in our local communities."
